Red Light District hit the scene just about two years ago and shot right up to the top of the porn world. They made major headlines by recruiting some of the top talent and directors in the business in mid-03, but finish the year amidst a storm of controversy. First we had the exit by Lexington Steele and now a rift in the company may have Dion Giarrusso on the outside looking in. At this point, details are scarce and rumors rampant, so we'll hold off on anything more until it becomes clearer. Needless to say, this is going to be one of the biggest stories of 2004.
As Santa Claus readied his sleigh for his annual trip, the fans had their final say in the 2003 Rog Reviews Fan Faves awards. With new security measures, this year was free of the controversy and ballot stuffing that has plagued the awards in recent years. Taylor Rain followed her win last year as Best Newbie by defeating Aurora Snow for Best Female Performer. Last year Rocco Siffredi shared Best Male honors with Lexington Steele. This year, Rocco defeated Erik Everhard to make it two in a row. Evil Angel also repeated as Best Company, knocking out Red Light District in a close race. Jules Jordan made it a triple-treat for Evil Angel with his third consecutive win as Best Director. He is the only person to hold three RRCC trophies for the same category. The Best Newbie award was won handily by Amee Donavan as she nearly doubled the votes garnered by German import Katja Kassin. Britney Spears remained everyone's most wanted celebrity, winning the poll for the fourth straight year in a very close race with Jessica Alba. I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and we look forward to an even higher voter turnout next year.
It was another banner year from our friends at Evil Angel. 2003 began with John Stagliano sweeping the AVN Awards (and the RRCC awards) with his brilliant "Fashionistas." There wasn't an award that this incredible piece of pornography didn't win as critics united to fill Stagliano's trophy case with a boatload of awards. Thanks to the continued efforts of directors like Jules Jordan, Joey Silvera and Rocco Siffredi, Evil Angel dominated the biz once again. They also welcomed Nacho Vidal back to the fold along with his on again-off again girlfriend Belladonna. Adding these two high-energy performer/directors to the fold further cements the Evil Empire at the top of porn's food chain and sets them up for an even bigger 04.
Last year Tera Patrick made herself the most talked about woman at the Adult Expo when she showed up on the floor and made her way to just about every booth she could find. With her contract situation at Digital Playground still in question, Tera had people wondering just where she would end up. Speculation was naturally high as the most sought after free agent shopped her services around for months. With the help of her KSEX show, Tera kept herself (and her new tits) on everyone's mind. Just last month she put an end to the speculation by inking a deal with Vivid and dropping her last name. Tera fans will now have a few years' worth of movies to look forward to. (And at least three dozen comps to follow.) It also means that she will likely stick to doing her real life boyfriend Evan on screen, creating plenty of problems for Vivid script writers. I can pretty much guarantee that this move means that I won't be getting to interview Tera any time soon, but I wish her well.
Since the fans have spoken, it is only fair that I get my voice as well. The third annual Rog Reviews Critic's Choice nominees have been named. The winners will be announced during the www.adultdvdtalk.com party at Adult Expo in Las Vegas. Six nominees have been chosen in seven categories this year. The Worst Movie category has been dumped for 2003, but may return in 2004 if Lizzy Borden makes another "Fossil Fuckers" movie.

Will Mayhem's ever expanding roster be able to keep things hot for raincoaters? Just where the hell is Jake Steed? How will AVN change now that Tim Connelly is on board?
