Welcome to a new year dear readers. I would like to begin this month’s Pipeline by thanking each and every one of you for a great 2000. We got to cover some interesting stories and topics and I hope 2001 will be just as eventful. Thank you all for your support and your emails that have added so much to the column. Here’s to another year of bringing you the world of smut and having a blast doing it.
My friends, can you believe it, we actually have a winner in the Presidential race that wouldn’t die. It took him over a month, but George W. Bush will be sworn in as our next President before I write another column. As many of you may remember, this column endorsed the Texas Governor during his bid for the White House and I stand by that endorsement. There is some concern at this point over the appointment of John Ashcroft as Attorney General. The former Senator is a strong social conservative and has some porners worried that they may find themselves in the crosshairs of the new Justice Department. Obviously, I can’t say for sure whether or not that will happen, but I hardly think the end of the world is upon us. With any luck, the new administration will be too busy trying to keep the economy running smoothly to bother with the restricting First Amendment rights.
After a two month fight, the third annual Rog Awards have nearly come to a conclusion. On January 1, the winners will be announced in all five categories. The field of 64 best female performers was cut down to the same two women as last year, 1998 Winner Serenity and defending champ Linda Thoren. Tom Byron defends his crown against Lexington Steele for the top male performer. McKayla Matthews and April vie for the Best Newbie Title. Congratulations to all of the top finishers and be sure to tune in next month for a full report on the final results.
By the time most of you read this, I’ll be on a plane to Las Vegas for my annual trip to the CES show. This year, AVN has taken over the adult area of the show. I’m not sure what sort of changes they have in store, but I’ll be sure to give you all the play by play from the show floor. The highlight of the show will be the big AVN Awards show. Look for Tera Patrick to win as Best New Starlet and the always campaigning Bridgette Kerkove to snag the coveted Best Female Performer award. A former Best Female winner, Kaitlyn Ashley is being inducted into the hall of fame this year. Though her ex-husband assures us that Kaitlyn has no more porn ties and won’t be on hand to see herself honored, I would like to personally congratulate her on this occasion. A closer look at the AVN nomination list beg some pretty serious questions. For example, how could anyone overlook Layla Jade for Best New Starlet? How did Lexington Steele NOT get nominated for Best Male Performer? How can they honor Max Hardcore with a Best Male Performer nomination, then stiff him in every director and series category? How can the two companies making arguably the best stroke flicks in the biz, Anabolic and Diabolic garner only two nominations between them? Former Contract babe and current Amazonian porn chick Zoe freaked a few people out with a disappearing act last month. She was scheduled to join Brittany O’Connell on the web cast of the Tera Show (www.terasow.com). Fill in hostess Alisha Klass was as shocked as anyone when Zoe didn’t show up. Ever since her unexplained absence, wild rumors have been flying about where the busty blonde may have gone. Personally, I like the Mexican jail rumors best, though I hear there isn’t an ounce of truth to any of those. I’ll see if I can get the straight story from her at the upcoming show.
In a year that saw a decided lack of originality in the porn world, Thomas Zupko’s “In the Days of Whore” stood out as a very interesting, disturbing fuck flick. Adam Film World recently named it as their top choice and it may very well take home the AVN statue as well. That’s quite a way for Zupko and Extreme to end the year. I guess this proves that shocking smut can be important, artistic and dare I say it, original.
It’s been a long time coming, but the new Tiffany Mynx movie, ‘Toe Story’ is finally set to his store shelves this month. The first release from Pagan Pictures (www.pagenpictures.com) is bound to thrill fans of sexy feet as well as fans of the Mynxter herself. As you can see from the photo here, Santa himself is a big fan of Tiffany.
AVN will be giving out their awards at the CES show, DVD Empire is doing theirs in mid-January, and the newest awards, the Web Adult DVD Awards will come in February. These new awards, done in conjunction with other web critics and my friends at www.adultdvdtalk.com will focus on the very best of the adult DVD world. Look for the list of nominees and further details about the awards in the next Pipeline.
Tera Patrick is all set to close out a very successful year. The odds on favorite to walk away with the Best Female Performer award at the AVN show has been hard at work as Digital Playground’s top Contract Babe and host of the popular web cast, the Tera Show. With a number of new projects on the way, 2001 is set to be an even bigger year for the woman that many consider the most beautiful babe in all of porn.
In close, I would like to send my warmest wishes to each and every one of you. This has been an amazing year for me personally and professionally and the loyal readers of this column are a huge part of that. I am forever grateful to all of you and hope this year will be even better.
