Hey everyone. You know it's the beginning of May so 2006 is close to half over already. You know what that means. That's right; time for some more awards for the best porn had to offer in 2005. Nothing like a little mid-year looking back to remind us all that it is almost time to start nominating movies for 2006. (Go ahead and pencil in "Jenna Haze Darkside" from Jules Jordan Video for a ton of statues.) It is also for us to get ready for Erotica LA, the FAME Awards and whatever other events we can squeeze into the long hot summer in Porn Valley.
She's back. That's right porn fans, our very favorite porno/pop princess Britney Rears is back in the sequel to her hit debut. Complete with a new single, Brit is back with "Britney Rears: I Wanna Get Laid." Hustler video bombarded actual radio stations with promo packages promoting the adult flick. Spears, the porn alter-ego of Jessica Sweet, must face charges of lip synching in her latest movie. With help form the likes of Hillary Scott, Eva Angelina, Jenaveve Jolie and Sunny Lane Britney finds loads of hot fun amidst the controversy. It would be easy to dismiss this movie as just another example of extremely clever marketing, but it is much more than the site, the song and the bling. Britney Rears 2 is actually a very hot stroke flick with memorable scenes from Jenaveve and Eva as well as more than a few trips around the hot tub with little Ms. Rears herself. Now if we can just convince the original Britney to join her porn namesake for some fun in BR 3, we'll have something really special.
Some of you may be familiar with Kick Ass Pictures line "Honey, We Blew Up Your Pussy." For those of you who haven't had the pleasure it's an odd little all-sex line that features women with "pumped up" pussies. They use this scary looking thing that is slipped over the labia and then pumps the lips up until they look like a plastic surgery nightmare. Though it has never been explained exactly why a woman would want to have her pussy lips blown up like this, the folks at Kick Ass are making the technology available to the ladies at home. Pick it up at your favorite adult novelty dealer on line or at home. Do me a favor though. If any of you use this thing and find that it works, I want to hear all about it. Come on ladies, let's hear it.
We all know that Vivid Video is one of the leading companies in adult entertainment. They are a giant in the porn biz, but they have been behind the curve in one area in recent years. With the rise of DVD as porn's dominant format, virtual sex movies have become hugely popular. Digital Playground and Digital Sin have delighted fans with their "Virtual Sex With" and "My Plaything" lines for years. Vivid's response to this point has limited to a few scattered virtual discs. This month they have finally stepped into the box with the first "Virtual Vivid Girl" DVD. For their first serious foray into the virtual sex world, Vivid has chosen Sunny Leone. Fans previously enjoyed her in Vivid's "Sunny" and she so impressed the top brass that Vivid has given her the distinction of being their first Double V Girl. With POV sex, nice and naughty settings and the stunning Ms. Leone on board, it should be quite a successful project.
Speaking of Vivid, they have a new girl in their camp these days. Actually she isn't really new at all. They are welcoming Cassidey back to the fold. After a few years away from the industry, the beautiful brunette with the stunning eyes and strong hunger for sweet pussy is back in the mix. Though she won fans with her stunning girl/girl scenes, fans who want to see her get poked with actual penis will have reason to be excited. The deal will put her in front of the camera with both guys and girls. No release date is set of her first movie back with Vivid, but I'm sure we'll see plenty of her for a while.
I don't usually delve into anything remotely political, but I couldn't help but laugh at the comments made by Paul Verhoeven about the resounding thud made by "Basic Instinct 2" at the box office. "'Anything that is erotic has been banned in the United States.Look at the people at the top (of the government). We are living under a government that is constantly hammering out Christian values. And Christianity and sex have never been good friends.'" Maybe Mr. Verhoeven hasn't surfed the web lately. Maybe he hasn't taken a look around the malls to see adult movies availabe in Tower Records. Perhaps he didn't take the time to realize that as porn has become more accepted and mainstream, the need for badly written , poorly acted "erotic thrillers" with over the hill actrress just aren't quite as sexy as they used to be. Nah, that's too easy. It's probably easier just to say that it's Bush's fault. (Too bad he wasn't around when you released "Showgirls" eh Paul?)
Maybe Mr. Verhoeven missed another related story from Indonesia last month. Apparently, and this is going to be a huge shock to some porn journalists and lame Hollywood types, but Christians aren't the only ones who have a problem with pornography. When Playboy magazine hit the streets in Indonesia, angry Muslim protestors pelted the building with rocks and threatened to burn the place down. Ironically enough, the Indonesian version of Playboy doesn't even feature nudity. It might be tough, but if we give Paul Verhoeven enough time he might even find a way to convince himself that this too is Bush's fault.
So on to the XRCO Awards we go. To the surprise of no one, it was another big night for Digital Playground's giant hit "Pirates." The movie picked up awards as Best Release, Best Epic and single-handedly gave director Joone the trophy as the top director in all of porn for 2005. Hillary Scott also picked up a pair of awards as Best Starlet and Orgasmic Oralist. The bid performer awards went to Manuel Ferrara and Nicki Hunter. Ferrara's win mirrored the honor he picked up from AVN while Hunter outdid AVN's choice for Female Performer Audrey Hollander for top honors. It was a great show a fun evening and I've got a whole gallery of pictures of the event up at http://www.rogreviews.com/Galleries/XRCO06/gallery.asp
Now that award season is over, we can move.huh? What? Oh yeah, the FAME Awards are in June so we're not quite out of the woods yet. Let's just say that we are almost done and can finally stop talking about awards after the July column. That leaves us one month before we have to start talking about the AVN nominations for 2006. Perhaps I should just add a little segment to this column to cover award nominations, winners and shows all year long. I guess that would be better than my sports predictions, right? Take care of yourselves everyone and get ready because summer is just around the corner.
